7 must-see events if you’re in the food and drink industry

People eating in a restaurantAlong with fashion, food and drink is one of the most vibrant and fastest moving industries. The tastes of British consumers are changing all the time so it’s vital to stay ahead of the curve.

Even if you don’t plan to change your menu or style any time soon, it’s good to know what’s coming round the corner so you can be prepared.

Luckily, there are plenty of events being held this year for people in your industry. Here are seven of the best that you should be attending this year:

The International Food & Drink Event

Where: ExCel London, Royal Docks, London, E16 1XL

When: 17th to 20th March

What: Running for four days and promising to give you a “taste of tomorrow”, the International Food & Drink Event (IFE) starts this Sunday. Over a thousand food and drink manufacturers will be there, showcasing their innovative products. The show’s divided into different sections which cover all the different cuisines and styles, including meat & seafood, international gourmet, a producers’ market, snacks & confectionery and many more. It’s taking part alongside Pro2Pac, the UK’s only food and drink processing and packaging event.

The London Coffee Festival

Where: Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London, E1 6QR

When: 28th to 20th March

What: This one’s an absolute must whether you run a coffee shop or just serve coffee at your establishment. The London Coffee Festival is a celebration of London’s rich and diverse coffee culture, with tastings and interactive workshops as well as live music and coffee-based cocktails. Most of the festival is for consumers and fans of good coffee but there’s also plenty going on for industry insiders. There’s a special industry “lab” with sessions targeted at everyone from barista to entrepreneur.

The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards

Where: Hurlingham Club, Fulham, London, SW6 3PR

When: 10th June

What: Whether you’ve been nominated or not, the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards should be a great event to gain some inspiration. On the night of the awards, they’ll be naming the best 100 restaurants in the UK and handing out individual awards to restaurants across the country. With over 600 of the UK’s leading chefs and restaurateurs in attendance, you’ll be sure to pick up a trick or two. And even if you don’t, there’s plenty of food, drink and entertainment to keep you happy.

Taste of London

Where: Regent’s Park, London, NW1 4NR

When: 19th to 23rd June

What: If food is your passion, get yourself down to Regent’s Park this summer for the Taste of London. It’s described as the world’s greatest restaurant festival and the “highlight of the foodie calendar”.  You’ll get the chance to try food from some of London’s best restaurants and learn some new tricks from world-class chefs. Plenty of artisanal food and drink brands will also be there selling the finest cheese, wine and more.

Specialty & Fine Food Fair

Where: Olympia London, Hammersmith, London, W14 8UX

When: 1st to 3rd September

What: If your business caters to the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to food and drink, the Specialty & Fine Food Fair at Olympia London is the one for you. It’s said to be the most influential annual gathering of producers and distributors of artisan, specialty and luxury food and drink in the country. You can discover new producers and hear talks from influential retailers, hoteliers and restaurateurs.

How: Entry is strictly for trade members only. You’ll need to show proof of your trade activities at the door. Registration isn’t available yet but keep an eye on their website.

The Restaurant Show 2019

Where: Olympia London, Hammersmith, London, W14 8UX

When: 30th September

What: Now in its 30th year, The Restaurant Show is a trade event for anyone in the restaurant, pub, hotel or bar industry. You can discover over 450 different exhibitors covering everything from EPOS and furniture to food and drink. The Restaurant Show also features a dedicated area for owners of bars and pubs as well as the Catering Equipment Expo. There will be plenty of talks and demonstrations, as well as the Competition Theatre which will be hosting the Craft Guild’s prestigious National Chef of the Year contest.

Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo

Where: ExCel London, Royal Docks, London, E16 1XL

When: 19th to 20th November

What: With 1,000 exhibitors, 15,000 influential visitors, 5,000 seminars and 200 panel sessions, this event is a must for anyone in the restaurant and takeaway sectors. The Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo covers everything from food delivery technology and sustainability to kitchen innovation. There’s also a networking area so you can connect with influencers in the industry. The expo also features a series of panels and keynotes from influential and inspiring figures from the trade.
