With Theresa May stepping down as prime minister, the Tory Party is holding a leadership election. Whoever they pick will not only become leader of the party but also leader of the country.
At the moment, former foreign secretary and Brexiteer Boris Johnson is the front-runner and seems likely to win.
So we decided to ask small business owners across the country what they thought about Boris and what impact they thought he’d have on their business if he were successful.
One in two (52.75%) said they thought Boris Johnson PM would have a positive effect on their business, with just under a quarter (24.18%) saying he’d have a very positive effect.
Whereas one in three (32.97%) thought a Boris premiership would be bad for business, with just under a sixth (15.38%) saying he’d be very bad.
We also asked business owners what they thought was the likeliest Brexit outcome should Boris fill May’s shoes.
One in two (54.95%) believe no-deal Brexit is most likely, with one in three (34.07%) believing it would result in us leaving the EU with a deal.
Finally, we asked business owners what impact they thought a no-deal Brexit would have on their business’s finances.
One in two (48.35%) thought it would have a negative impact, with one in four (26.37%) believing the impact would be positive.
One in five (20.88%) believe a no-deal Brexit would have no effect on their business’s finances.
